The Advance Living Directive(c) is, at this point, a concept that we are promoting. There is a blog article – https://supportforhome.wordpress.com/2009/08/26/is-home-still-the-right-place/ – and a podcast – https://supportforhome.wordpress.com/2010/08/07/podcast-is-home-still-where-i-should-be/ – on the topic, thus far. In our research, we have not found anything quite like the concept, so far. There is another blog article that is related, concerning ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) – https://supportforhome.wordpress.com/2009/09/15/a-focus-on-iadls/ – where I try to create an index of ability that ties to whether I need home care.
What we’re trying to get to is a fairly objective approach to deciding some critical questions:
Do I need home care or am I still OK on my own?
Am I still OK in my own home or do I need to look for (a) downsizing, (b) assisted living, (c) skilled nursing facility, (d) memory care unit?
The “Advance” part of it comes from the fact that by the time a decision is required, I may not be able to make it, for whatever reason. If the right questions have been asked and answered, my trustee or family or loved one would have some very critical guidance.
