Exergamers Wellness Club

Exergamers Wellness Club is a great idea because it is so simple, but the technology took a while to enable it to work.  Now, it can go places!  As an old IT geek myself, “retiring” from Intel to start Support For Home, I am a big believer in the use of technology to improve home care, health care and senior care, in general.  I love it when technology companies join with other service providers to make life better.

Microsoft, partnering with the Los Angeles Department of Aging, Partners in Care Foundation, and St. Barnabas Senior Services, uses two of its techology products Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360 and Microsoft HealthVault to help seniors “get fit, increase social interaction, and manage their personal health information online.”

While the initial focus is on senior centers, we in the home care industry would love to see it introduced, in a networked mode, to home care, as well.  We can see situations where clients receiving home care can be connected to others, including family members, for fun, games and social contact.  We need to keep pushing the boundaries of how we can use technology to make the lives of our seniors richer and healthier.

Best wishes.  Bert

  1. Yes I know that some Senior Centers do keep Wii consoles and allow seniors to play Wii sports:Baseball,Tennis,Bowling, Boxing, and Golf. There are always a few that play. It might be good for seniors at home to use a console for light physical workout if they cannot go outside.
