A Few Good Mentions

Support For Home is a member of the National Private Duty Association (NPDA), which is a tremendous source of information and education, not just for its member home care agencies, but for the public, as well.  When families need to make a decision about care for a loved one, that is major.  In our view, it is the hardest decision that families make.  So, please be sure to mark your calendar!  NPDA will host a nation-wide consumer/family caregiver educational webinar Home Safe Home: Making Informed Senior Care Decisions that covers advice on hiring a home care provider, September 23, 2010.  The live and interactive consumer-oriented event will be held at 7 pm CDT / 5 pm Pacific.

If you are in the Sacramento, California area, the seventh annual “Drive ‘Fore’ the Cure” golf tournament is coming up on September 17th, at Mather Golf Course.  If you do not play golf, you can just go to dinner, but it is more fun to watch people pretend that they play golf! 🙂  Check in with the Alzheimer’s Aid Society, at  916 483-2002 for details.

The Parkinson Association of Northern California (PANC) has more conference and resource fairs coming up this summer and fall:

  • August 28, San Jose
  • October 23, San Francisco
  • November 13, Santa Rosa
  • January 22, Berkeley
  • February 26, Fresno

Details can be obtained by calling PANC at 916 489-0241.  Also, PANC has its 8th Annual “Play and Parlay” Casino Night, at the Sacramento Scottish Rite Masonic Center on Saturday, September 11th, from 5-9 PM.

From the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® Web site:

The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $300 million for the cause.
Memory Walk is a community event that joins friends, family and co-workers as they walk to end Alzheimer’s. Participants typically register in teams of 10-12 and fundraise using tools supported by the Alzheimer’s Association. Walks vary from one to three miles and are held in nearly 600 locations nationwide.
